I sent you an e-mail, I can cancel it if you want.. It's a free promotion, and it might get some people who are disconnected with the scene back, and aware of this massive event.
It's not like there would be news teams there the day of.. It's Ron going on wktv and talking about the event and his venue.

I respectfully disagree with those who are against “live – on site” media coverage for these events. There is a HUGE amount of negative mis-information about the music scene in general and “raves” in particular. Good coverage can counter the negative mis-information.
I had to deal with the negativity at the public hearings held in my village in order for me to get a permit to hold events. None of the folks expressing negative opinions had ever been to an event, or even knew anyone who had been to an event. They based their opinions on negative stories posted on the internet (and we all know that there have been events with real problems).
Positive press reports can only help those who are trying to host and promote events.
As a padawan (n o o b), I defer to those who have far more experience promoting and hosting events. I realize that cameras (and their lighting) can be distracting at times, but I think the good outweighs the bad. I hope to learn more, and understand better, the reasons for not wanting the press coverage.

Press coverage is fine.. We always have News articles, Links, Interviews.. The thing with live on the spot coverage it can get annoying attempting to run an event with people trying to do media everywhere.. During the day its great.. at night its usually not the best thing when you have people running around trying to dance room to room whatever else..
I specified that WKTV was not to do a "follow up" story after the Newtalk interview, so that won't be an issue.
I agree that we need some positive news coverage, but also agree with Parkay on why not to have any news crews covering the event the day of. (As that positive news coverage may very well backfire) As Mikey pointed out, if it were an all ages event it may have been a different story.
Ron, you're going to do a great job representing your venue and the event on news talk, and you will also be a good spokesperson for our music culture. That I am confident of. |
