New kids on the block Intermission Ltd celebrate their 10th release with a funky, glitchy EP from Atom and friends.
Using a Bill Withers sample (Ain't No Sunshine) and a funky bassline, the Shes Gone original mix glitches and clicks along and those familiar with the sets of Nick Hoppner and podcasts from Ibiza Voice will appreciate this.
The Andrew Kirchner remix adds a bit of progressive atmosphere with a dream-like melody and a hard beat, though the track doesn't omit the glitches and the vocal is put through a voice decoder to add a bit more mystique - which complements the dreamy synth. Good ol' Bill entertains again leading us to a breakdown and an uplifting finale. Good grooving production on this remix, cool for a late night chilled out mix.
Garage legend Todd Edwards would approve of the Precious Roy Dub. The remix echoes Edwards' “R U Sleeping?” remix and is an old school guilty pleasure. The various sounds create a great groove and the relentless beat maintains an uplifting sound before ol' Bill starts to complain about his woman and the weather again.
As with the other remixes, Forrest Avery's Early Riser mix has something of the French about it before breaking down into a trumpet melody that sounds like the soundtrack to a Disney morning. Thankfully, the tune kicks back into solid beats, glitches, moans and a heavily treated Ain't No Sunshine vocal. Good funky house here.
Flip Flops and Sox original mix has a cool jazzy feel to it and a sexy 'ooh' underlies a DJ tool vocal saying 'Harder, Bigger'. Early Trevor Lovey's fans and lovers of Jason Hodges and the Chicago house stars will like this one.
Overall: Quality funky remixes for house lovers. |

Posted - 05/06/2009 : 2:01:58 PM Some fresh sounding releases here! She's gone (original) has a jazzy feel to it while remaining upbeat and super funky. Kirchner's rmx is more of a chilled out version. Very uplifting, mellow, with a liquidish sound. Flip flops and sox suits the track well lol. Def has a flip flop beat, techy and glitchy. Congrats to drew for the tenth release on his intermission label! |
