Promoters for the ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL (UMF)--the world’s leading two-day electronic and alternative music experience--has unveiled initial details of its highly anticipated line-up for the festival’s 12th annual installment. Set for Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 in downtown Miami as the official closing event of the 25th Anniversary Winter Music Conference, UMF will be the only place to experience a vast number of exclusive artist performances this year.
UMF 2010 boasts headlining appearances from Tiësto--who will return to the U.S. for the first time since his sold-out tour in support of his 2009 album Kaleidoscope--Friday, March 26 and Deadmau5 (making his first major festival appearance in 2010) and Groove Armada Saturday, March 27. Boston-based synth-popsters Passion Pit—fresh off of a series of sold-out headline shows across North America and a recent appearance on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live”--is also set for Ultra as well as Faithless Sound System and the Bloody Beetroots who will both make their U.S. live debut.
Carl Cox returns for the sixth consecutive year with his two-day mega tent; Armin Van Buuren, the world’s #1 DJ per DJ Magazine’s annual readers poll, also will appear; and gaining greater exposure at the festival are marquee acts from the jamtronica scene including The Disco Biscuits, Ghostland Observatory, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights and Lotus. Furthermore, Ultra Music Festival is mashing up dub step and drum & bass to create the very first Dub and Bass arena on the Saturday bill with a who’s who in both genres.

INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION SONIC FOREST
The promoters for the ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL (UMF) have unveiled the third
and final phase of artists confirmed for the world’s premier electronic
music festival, taking place Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 at
Bicentennial Park in Miami. Set to join previously announced headliners
Tiësto and Deadmau5, along with LIVE headliners Faithless Sound System,
Groove Armada and Orbital are LMFAO, Sander Kleinenberg, Josh Wink,
Hybrid (DJ set) Tania Vulcano, Afrojack and more.
Adding to one of the strongest and most diverse electronic line-ups ever
assembled is Florence from Florence and the Machine, who will perform
with Swedish House Mafia on the Ultra Main Stage Saturday, March 27, and
Kelis, who is set to team with Benny Benassi for several songs as well.
On the same day, Hybrid will headline with a DJ set the UMF Radio stage
in support of their new album Disappear Here, out March 29 on
Distinctive Records. Joining all the artists on the new Ultra Main Stage
is Vello Virkhaus (VJV2) who is set to pilot both days. Ultra Music
Festival will be the only place fans can experience these artists during
Winter Music Conference.
The event promoters have also announced the addition of four new arenas
to the festival grounds: the UMF Ibiza Tent presented by Space Ibiza,
the UMF Brasil Tent presented by We Love Brasil & Green Valley, the Root
Society Dome and the Heineken Dome Experience. The UMF Ibiza Tent is the
result of a new partnership between UMF Ibiza and Club Space Ibiza,
bringing the Space Ibiza party to Miami. The party is set to continue
throughout the summer as UMF travels to Ibiza to host the Space Ibiza
Opening, Anniversary and Closing Parties.
The Root Society Dome has been described as “the biggest party dome on
the planet.” Of teaming with UMF, Root Society founder Captain Jeff
Taylor says, “I know ULTRA is the place to release the Root Society
brand after 7 years in the desert sanctuary Burning Man. If you’re
addicted to bass you will be in this dome!”
Another addition to UMF is artist/composer Christopher Janney’s
installation Sonic Forest which provides an interactive, aural and
visual component that will entice festival goers into a unique
environment. Triggered by both public interaction and electronic
instruments, Sonic Forrest is composed of 16 eight-foot tall aluminum
poles that contain audio speakers, lights and photo-electric cells. As
people move closely by these “electronic trees,” they trigger both
melodic and environmental sounds, in a sense “playing the forest.” When
no one is moving in the space, the piece generates a series of
preprogrammed patterns. During various parts of the installation,
independent drummers join the environment, turning the Forest into a
dance festival unto itself. Over the past five years, Sonic Forest has
been featured at Bonnaroo, All Points West and Coachella in the US, as
well as the Download Festival, Hyde Park Calling, Wireless and
Glastonbury Festivals in the U.K., the Lowlands Festival in the
Netherlands and the Zaragoza World’s Fair in Zaragoza, Spain.

Promoters for the ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL (UMF) are in the final stages of preparing for the 2010 installment of the world’s premier electronic music festival taking place this Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 at Bicentennial Park in Miami. With their strongest line-up to date, the festival is on track to be a sold-out event—the first in UMF history since becoming a two-day festival.
With a solid line-up already in place--including performances on Friday from Tiësto, David Guetta, Groove Armada, Passion Pit, Little Boots, LMFAO, The Disco Biscuits and The Crystal Method and on Saturday from Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia with special guest Florence from Florence And The Machine, Armin Van Buuren, Benny Benassi with special guest Kelis, Orbital, Calvin Harris, Ghostland Observatory and Major Lazer--UMF has announced the addition of Stephen Marley to Damian Marley & Nas’ performance on Saturday. Other notable performers joining Damian Marley & Nas for a sure-to-be memorable set include Shiah Coore, Sean Diedrick, Courtney Diedrick, Phillip James, Andrae Carter, Leon Mobley, Roselyn Williams, Rovleta Fraser and Garfield Logan. Atlanta-based deejay Le Castle Vania has also been added to the Bayfront Stage on Saturday’s bill.
The Dirty Dutch Music crew--Chuckie, Sidney Samson, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, Hardwell, and R3hab--has also been has been added to the UMF bill and is set to appear in the new Heineken Inspire Dome. Corso Communications will debut the two air conditioned Domes this year at UMF: one Dome will feature the Star Bar serving cold Heineken and Heineken Light draught and then, with beer in hand, festival goers can proceed through the media tunnel to the second Dome where they can be Inspired by a line-up of the best artists Winter Music Festival has to offer. Both domes offer 360 degree video with master VJ's Vello and Milo syncing up an audio/visual experience not to be missed.
This year marks the fourth year that UMF will transform itself into a top multi-media event. In addition to its stellar music performance roster, festival goers can experience live painting by celebrated local artist LEBO during The Disco Biscuits set, artist/composer Christopher Janney’s interactive sound and light Sonic Forest, 3GZ Productions showcasing experimental films at its Ultra Video Lounge, Daniel Fila (aka Krave, aka The Fresh Monkey) painting live, Daniel Fiorda with his "Medusa's – The Sovereign Female Wisdom" art installation, Daniel Marosi’s "Recycle" installation, top graffiti crews including MSG Cartel--infamous for the Crome and Crook spree of the 1990's, urban muralist Cp1 and eco-friendly furniture by PIE Studio.
